Body of Law considers how we are shaped by authoritative systems such as the state, law and religion. These systems may influence us both overtly and unconsciously. In the context of parenting, the work reflects on how one becomes aware of the authorities that have formed us, and how inherited beliefs may, in turn, shape the life of a child.

It asks which beliefs we align with, which ones constrain us, and how these tensions sit alongside personal ethics and spirituality. More broadly, it considers how we locate ourselves within the overlapping frameworks of conviction produced by religion and law.

This work is accompanied by a short film that was screened only in the gallery space.
